2. Introduction
The protection of your personal data is important to us. This privacy policy informs you about the processing of personal data when using our mobile app “BAföG-Rechner” (BAföG Calculator) for iOS and Android.
3. Data Processing in the App
3.1 Local Data Storage
What data is stored:
- Your BAföG calculation inputs (personal data, study information, financial data, family information, living situation)
- Calculation results and history
- App settings (theme, notifications, etc.)
- Notification configuration (study start, application dates, approval periods)
Where data is stored:
- All data is stored exclusively locally on your device
- Data is NOT shared with third parties
- Data is NOT shared with other users
iCloud Sync (iOS only, optional):
If you have enabled iCloud for this app, your data will be synced encrypted via your iCloud. This is subject to Apple’s privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We have no access to your iCloud data.

3.2 Error Monitoring with Sentry (optional)
You can optionally enable error monitoring with Sentry to help us improve the app. This feature is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you in the settings.
When enabled, the following data is transmitted to Sentry (sentry.io):
- Error reports and app crashes
- Technical device information (iOS/Android version, device model)
- App version and time of error
What data is NOT collected:
- NO personal BAföG calculation data
- NO names, addresses, or contact information
- NO device IDs or unique identifiers
- NO IP addresses (anonymized by Sentry)
Legal basis:
- Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent)
Data recipient:
- Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry.io)
- Server location: USA (adequate level of data protection through EU-US Data Privacy Framework)

Storage duration:
- Sentry data is automatically deleted after 90 days
Right to object:
- You can disable Sentry at any time in the app settings
4. Notifications
Push notifications:
- The app can send local notifications (BAföG application deadlines, approval periods)
- These are generated locally on your device
- NO data is sent to external servers
- You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings

You have the following rights:

How to exercise your rights:
- Delete local data: Uninstall the app
- Disable Sentry: In app settings

6. Data Security
Technical measures:
- Encrypted local data storage
- iOS: Secure Enclave / Android: Keystore
- No transmission of sensitive data to the internet
- Regular security updates
- HTTPS-encrypted connection to Sentry (when enabled)
7. Data Sharing
Your BAföG calculation data will NEVER be shared:
- No sharing with BAföG offices
- No sharing with universities
- No sharing with third parties
- No sale of data
- No advertising based on your data
Only exception: Anonymized crash data to Sentry (only if enabled by you, see 3.2)
8. Minors
The app is intended for persons aged 16 and older. If you are younger, we ask for consent from your legal guardians.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to adapt this privacy policy as needed. The current version can always be found at:

- In the app under “Settings > Privacy”
You will be informed of significant changes in the app.
